Emma and Jacob
Jacob is my first child and it was my intentions to use real nappies from birth for two reasons; firstly the harm on the environment that disposable nappies have and secondly the chemicals that exist in disposable nappies are unnecessary against a newborn’s skin.
I use two brands of real nappies; Bambino Mios in the day time and the Mother Ease cotton nappies from the WSCC initiative at night due to their comfortable fit and high absorbency. (Few leaks yet!)
Although there are laundering services that collect and deliver the nappies, I decided to launder them myself – a very simple process every two to three days that involves pre – soaking them in a bucket of sanitizer and water (I put them straight in here after he has been changed) and then a 60 0c machine wash. And that’s it!
The common misconception of reusable nappies is often that they are hard work but as yet, we have not put him in a disposable. It really has been easy! The other great bonus is the cost. Once the initial investment is over, the financial savings compared to disposable are very significant and of course they can be used on your next child which in my view makes total sense.

Top Tips
- Set up your changing station with your pre folded nappies, liners and outer cases ready to use.
